RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- The Palestinian Authority released several Hizb Ut-Tahrir supporters detained on Friday afternoon at the main mosque in Al-Bireh in the Ramallah and Al-Bireh district in the central West Bank, a party statement read.

The pan-Islamist movement said dozens of supporters were detained as they convened to hold a special sermon after Friday prayer, accusing PA forces of assaulting several before arresting them.

Hizb Ut-Tahrir accused the PA of pursuing the movement and detaining supporters across the West Bank, detailing that dozens were detained in the northern districts of Qalqiliya and Salfit, and Hebron in the south.

The release follows that of several party affiliates in Gaza on Thursday after they were detained a day earlier by Hamas-affiliated security forces.
