A Dhaka court on Saturday remanded five operatives of outlawed Islamist outfit Hizb ut-Tahrir Bangladesh for six days in two cases—one for attacking Rab men and the other filed under Anti-Terrorism Act.

Rapid Action Battalion personnel on Friday arrested the Hizb ut-Tahrir men when they brought out a procession at the capital's Uttara.

Those remanded are: Minhaj Yiamim alias Zibran, 35, Mohammad Mosaddeq, Mohammad Mosabbir, 22, Ibrahim Khalil, 18, and Fahim Afsar Bhuiyan, 20. Mosaddeq and Mosabbir are siblings and students of a private university.

During the arrest, two Rab men reportedly suffered injuries in an alleged attack by the Tahrir men who also were wounded. After the incident, Rab officials handed over the detainees to Uttara Police Station and a Rab official filed the two cases.

The government banned Hizb ut-Tahrir Bangladesh on October 22, 2010. On Thursday, Bangladesh Army officials alleged that some present and former army officials had attempted to topple the government and the outfit is one of the helping elements.
